PSALM 131 (1-3): Lord, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes haughty; nor do I involve myself in great matters, or in things too difficult for me. Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child [resting] with his mother, My soul is like a weaned child within me [composed and freed from discontent]. O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forever.
PRAYER: Lord, though there are plenty of your people involved in great matters in this world today, I am not one of them. My heart has nothing especially to be proud of, and I have no reason to pretend, in any way, that I am greater than any other person in the world. What I CAN say, though, is that I have learned to rest in your love, and feed on your Word, as a young child who has already been weaned of his mother’s milk. You have taught me, Lord, to be calm, cool, and collected, and not to fear the things of the world around me that would otherwise seem quite terrifying. Today I come to you simply to bask in your loving kindness, and rest calmly–composed, and free from discontent. My hope, Lord, is in you, from this time forth, and forever. AMEN!
