(Thanksgiving for Return from Captivity)
(The Seventh Psalm in a Song of Ascents)
* * * * * * * * * * * *
PSALM 126 (1-6): When the LORD brought back the captives to Zion (Jerusalem), we were like those who dream [it seemed so unreal]. Then our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with joyful shouting. Then they said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them!”
The LORD HAS done great things for us! We are glad! Restore our captivity (those remaining in exile), O LORD, as the streambeds in the South (the Negev) [are restored by torrents of rain]. They who sow in tears, shall reap with joyful singing. He who goes back and forth weeping, carrying his bag of seed [for planting], will indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him!
PRAYER: Lord, we here in the United States haven’t been in a position of bondage NEARLY as long as were the Israelites, but we now know that for at least the last 50 years or so, there have been people plotting and planning to take over all of the free countries, to turn them into nations under bondage to their own, communist-like regimes. These days, we’re seeing it happen here, and it seems quite scary, even to think about it.
However, we absolutely know that you are the Great I Am, and that you are working (even when we can’t see it, behind the scenes) to bring not only OUR nation, but the many others (some who have already been in bondage for very long times) “back to Zion (Jerusalem).” Therefore, we begin, even now, reaping the benefits of your VICTORY, with joyful singing. It is time for us to let go of the things the regime here in the U.S. has been trying to force on the citizenry. SO…according to the power and authority that you’ve given us as a “kingdom of priests,” we now set ourselves to declare and decree, “We are FREE of this bondage, in the name of Jesus—the name that is higher than ANY other name—who is the MIGHTY King of Kings, and Lord of Lords—the Master of Everything”–our GOOD, GOOD GOD!!!
We pray this same thing over the other nations—those who have already been in bondage for even longer, and who are also seeking a way out. Thank you that you have given us this small glimpse into what it felt like when the Israelites were restored to their home place—a place of dignity and authority. Thank you for the JOY that will come from the mouths of all who are restored in these days—including ourselves. Also, help us to remember to give you thanks, at ALL times, that we are the WINNERS—not the LOSERS! AMEN!
