Psalm 46
(Declaring God as Our Strong and Mighty Refuge)
* * * * * * * * * * * *
1-3) Father God, you are my refuge and my strength. I know that your help is always available. Therefore, I will not walk in fear…
…even when the earth quakes…
…even when volcanoes violently erupt…
…even when mountainsides slide into the seas…
…even when tidal waves and tsunamis occur…
…even when floods cover the land…
…even when hurricanes and tornadoes cause destruction…
…even when I feel like my life is one disaster after another…
…even when (insert your own experiences)…
4-7) Jesus, you promised that Holy Spirit would be a river of life flowing through and out of me–bringing and spreading joy, even in the face of disaster. Because you live in me, I will not be moved by fear. You are the God who created everything. There is nothing that should terrify me. You—the God of Jacob and the Lord of Hosts—dwell in me. Instead of fear, I will remember these things and be joyful.
8-11) I will behold YOUR works, Lord. Even when there seems to be nothing but desolation surrounding me, I will remember that you have always overcome those who have warred against and persecuted your people. I will remember that you are the great I AM, and that you always have been, are now, and always will be highly-exalted. Your glory is present among all the nations on Earth. You, great and almighty God–our Father, our Savior, our Comforter—are my true and strong refuge. These are the things I will think about and remember, daily, and I give you thanks–now and forever.
Amen
