(The Fifth Psalm in A Song of Ascents)

PSALM 124 (1-9): “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side…” (let Israel now say) “…if it had not been the Lord who was on our side when men rose up against us, then they would have [quickly] swallowed us alive, when their wrath was kindled against us. Then the waters would have engulfed us. The torrent would have swept over our soul. Then the raging waters [or… our arrogant enemies] would have swept over our soul. Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us as prey to be torn by their teeth. We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers. The trap is broken and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
PRAYER: Based on this scripture, on the testimony of many others, and on our own experiences, we know that you are definitely on our side, Father God! Even in these days, when men have surely risen up against us–thinking to quickly swallow us alive, because the devil has kindled their wrath against us–we know that not only would you step in and physically rescue us in amazing ways, if necessary, but that we also can count on you to keep us OUT of the raging waters sent against us by our arrogant enemies (the ones who would love to sweep us away and be done with us).
We worship you and bless you, Lord, because we know that even when they hunt us down with the intent to kill us, they are not allowed to HAVE us! Because of you, we KNOW that we will escape–like a bird out of a trap. You have already broken all the traps (even the ones that seem to be closing in on us in this day and time). Therefore, in your eyes, we have already escaped.
Please help us to remember this, Holy Spirit, so that we see the situation here on Earth through YOUR eyes, and do not believe everything we see through our physical eyes. Our help truly is in the name of Jesus–the Word of God–without whom, nothing was made, that was made.
You are still the same Jesus who became the Perfect Sacrifice Lamb for us–who has already been crucified, and then, after taking EVERY evil thing upon your own body and allowing yourself to physically die because of it, you then went and took back the keys of death and hell, therefore returning to us all (as descendants made in the image of God) the dominion over our world that had been given over to the deceiver so long ago.
Truly, you HAVE already made us victorious over ALL of the snares of the fowler–that same deceiver. We trust you to help us to learn more about the ways he tries to steal from us, kill us, destroy us, or even just wear us out, and how we should be effectively using those very keys against him.
THANK YOU, LORD! AMEN!!!
