A Psalm of David
* * * * * * * * * * * *
(1)……..The heavens declare your glory, Lord, and the expanses of the heavens show forth the work of your hands.
(2-4)….Day after day they utter speech, and night after night they reveal knowledge. There is no culture where their voices are not heard. Their sounds have gone out through all the earth, and their words to the ends of the universe.
(5-6)….In them, you have set a dwelling place for the sun (which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber–rejoicing like a strong man ready to run a race). It rises at one end of the heavens, arcs to the other end, then completes its circuit by traveling back to the beginning, and there is nothing hidden from its heat.
(7-9)….Your ways, Lord, are perfect–restoring the soul. Your testimony is assured–giving us wisdom. Your statutes, Lord, are righteous–rejoicing the heart. Your commandments, are pure–enlightening our way of seeing things. Your awesome presence, Lord, is clean and shining–enduring forever. Your judgments are true, and completely righteous.
(10)…….More to be desired are all those things, than much fine gold, and they are wonderfully sweeter than honey in the honeycomb.
(11-13)..Moreover, as we learn your ways more and more clearly, we find that walking in them becomes greatly rewarding. You understand our errors, and you even cleanse us from faults that we think we have hidden from you. You also remind us to work with and among others–not riding herd over them, or making them seem foolish. Help us not to allow negative ways to dominate us, so that we can walk strongly in the positive knowledge and truth of your total love and forgiveness.
(14)……..Help us to remember to keep the words of OUR mouths, as well as OUR thoughts, lined up with the standards of YOUR heart, Lord. You are our Firm Foundation—our Rock, and our Redeemer!
